SJP-idiolecte-CM-couvProceedings of the symposium held at the University of Cergy-Pontoise, November 2009 Edited by Catherine Mayaux

Throughout his life Saint-John Perse consulted all kinds of dictionaries, as we can see from his poetic language. Studying his idiolect allows us to penetrate the intertextual substratum from which his work emerges, the history and ideas that shaped it. Explorations like the ones in this volume allow us to view some of the traditional areas of Saint-John Perse scholarship through the lenses of syntax, vocabulary, grammar, figures of speech, and specialized lexicons from which the poet drew. Other topics include the ideology of language as well as the presence of Creole and other languages in Saint-John Perse’s poetry.
