Valery Larbaud
"His real title ? Not Larbaud Modernist and The European Larbaud. »
Saint-John Perse in his tribute 1957, "Larbaud or literary honor".
Unlike Paul Valéry ou de Louise Weiss, Valery Larbaud (1881-1956) has not theorized about Europe but it was a European before time since it “sedentary vagabond” never ceased throughout his life to travel around Europe and stay in most of its countries (with preferences for England, Spain and Italy). His work and his life bear witness to a new reality :
All that is “national” est sot, archaic, Patriotic basely… It was good in special circumstances and for specific periods, but everything is gone. There is a European country.
