Advocating for a Franco-German reconciliation, Alexis Leger, alias Saint-John Perse, defended as early as 30 a federalist vision of Europe. Albert Camus is defined as European from 1948 and sees Europe as an "intellectual home", a country of "rebels", an open multicultural community.
