Presentation
Directed by Saint-John Perse, the volume of its Complete Works in the "Pleiades" erases the boundaries between poetry and politics, history and fiction, editing and writing. Historical personalities encountered by Alexis Leger will become, as the diplomat-poet himself, characters from the poetry of Saint-John Perse. The intellectual self-portrait, literary and political who enroll, acquires a consistency that exists only in the imagination.
Professor de littérature française contemporaine à l'Université Montpellier III, Renée Ventresque dedicated his doctoral thesis to the library of Saint-John Perse. She has published two books in, Les Antilles de Saint-John Perse. L’itinéraire intellectuel d’un poète (Paris, 1993) and Le Songe antillais de Saint-John Perse (Paris, 1995), themselves supplemented by a new approach to the relation between reading and writing, Saint-John Perse in his library (Paris, 2007).
